On this unique journey we travel from the vibrant capital of Lima to Iquitos,
the gateway to the world's largest river, the Amazon. Our journey down
the Amazon River unfolds a wealth of tropical birds and magnificent flowers
and foliage and ends at a traditionally styled lodge surrounded by towering
Lumuna trees. Accompanied by our native naturalist guide we'll explore the
jungle on a day hikes, get up early for bird watching and paddle by canoe
to see the giant lily pads. We try some fishing the traditional way and search
for the " pink fresh water dolphins" at play.- It's not a myth,
we saw them. Leaving the Amazon will end with a
visit to the water city of Belen and back to Iquitos, with
its colonial mansions and magnificent "azueljos". We continue our
journey to the bustling Andean city of Cuzco "The City of Sun",
the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, with its street markets and magnificent
cathedrals. Other journeys include the Sacred Valley of Urubamba the Maras salt mines, the Pisac
ruins and the famous artisan market and the ruins of Ollantaytambo famous
for its exhibit of fine mason-work. Surrounding Cusco are the ruins of Saqsaywaman, Quenqo
and the Royal Bath of Tambomachay and they offer grand views of the city below. We
rise early to view the Machu Picchu ruins at sunrise and a beautiful hike
to the "Gate of the Sun" lets us appreciate the spectacular site
again. We'll return by train to Cuzco, the archeological capital for the
Americas. Its beauty embraces us with its massive Inca built stonewalls and
we overnight in a beautiful colonial style hotel close to the main plaza
and other attractions. Lake Titicaca and the Island of the Uros and Taquile Islands are one of the world's most unique attractions. Two thousand Uros inhabit the islands made of tightly bundled reeds and the women are famous for their embroidered wall hangings and the men for their knitting. On Lake Titicaca lays the enchanting city of Puno and a visit to the towers of Sillustani will round up this magic trip.
